Jose "Androide" Ferrer wins the Open Belgian Championship 2007. Gert "Twiedekker" Lerno after six years again Belgian Champion. Twinsclub was once again the venue of the VII° Open Belgian Championship and 17 competitors could take part. Amongst them, the Luxemburg sailor Paul "Q-l'Eaux" and Jose from Barcelona. The meteo for the weekend announced two depressions to pass our region : the WSW wind had an average of 22 knots during the whole weekend with peaks till 25 knots. This seemed a bit lot to take the first race on a friday evening, so the regatta started on saturday. Three races were sailed in 1,5 meter high waves, and the sky was sunny with occasional clouds. In the first race, Simon took a strong port start against the fairly strong flood current, but had to go to the shore with mast troubles. This race was won by Gert, followed by Jose and Mark ( always strong in 20 knots wind, although he prefers 25 + knots ). During the second race the wind calmed a little ( 18 knots ) and conditions were sunny. Jose lead before Gert and Jacob. The third consecutive race was again won by Jose, followed by Bernard and a strong Antoon. On sunday morning, the sky was cloudy, and again there was an average wind of 22 knots, now NW after the passage of a cold front, so almost perpendicular to the shore. After postponing the race till the afternoon, it was decided to cancel all further races. Some 8 sailors had a very exciting ride back, running half wind in some 20 minutes to De Haan. The three sailed races made the championship valid : Jose is winner over all, and Gert seizes the title of Belgian Champion, six years after his first win in 2001, and Bernard became third. Antoon, who just entered patin sailing, became fourth, followed by last year champion Jacob. The variability in the results, shows the higher standard of sailing the nosepasa sailors have acquired. They all want to thank Twinsclub and his crew and the Race Committee for the fantastic sailing !
